Wake & Bae’ke

I couldn’t chose just one Title/caption for this playlust…I mean, playlist. So here are them all:

“Yes, you are a snack, but also here’s a playlist for your morning munchies… to start your day off right.”

So May is Mental Health Awareness Month. But it’s also Masturbation month (who knew?!) and I couldn’t help but think that there might be a connection. I didn’t get very far in my research, but I do have a new post about sexuality and gender portrayal in the media, so be on the lookout for that.

“Happy hump day…I mean Wednesday.”

Perk up/get lifted. Despite reopening efforts it’s been a hellova couple of months, to say nothing of the last year. As stricter timetables come back along with hybrid schedules there’s no shortage of hikes in sluggishness and also hyper-alert anxiety. You might find yourself more tired than you thought possible and easily overwhelmed. Now this isn’t a playlist to meditate to, by any means, but it has helped perk me up and get lifted at times throughout the pandemic.

“This playlist is full of tunes to keep you satiated and quenched… the way you leave other’s thirrsty” 🤤

“Love of self shouldn’t go up in smoke so easily 🔥💨🚭…for all you 4.20 friendly folx.”

I originally wanted to post this playlist on 4.20.21 but that was also the day the Derick Chauvin verdict was given, and there was too much stress energy to share this nonchalantly. The guilty verdict was a goosebump inducing release, but I personally wasn’t in a celebratory or chill headspace. I wanted to wait to post this until it felt right, and on May 25th I thought to myself: “perhaps today?”…but something still didn’t feel right. The 25th happens to be the 1year anniversary of George Floyd’s death. 9 minutes etched in history—a life of renewal not just suspended but cruelly taken— giving in return the renewal of a global movement. I’m publishing this post and the one about self love in this last week of May 2021 as a reminder to love yourself the way no one else can, mentally, emotionally, and yes, physically. Protect yourself the way no one else will.

“Because Before Anyone Else (bae), you’ve got to love yourself first…thing in the morning.”
